According to reports, LSG was ready to retain KL Rahul for the next season, but he chose to move on for personal and professional reasons. In August 2024, Rahul met with LSG’s owner, giving fans hope that he might stay. However, after some thought, Rahul decided it was best to explore other options, leading to his departure from the team.

LSG’s focus on other players
LSG has decided to build its core team around other players, including Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, and Ayush Badoni. They want to create a new strategy with these younger players. Due to this shift in focus, LSG has decided to let go of Rahul, even though he was a key player. With five players retained, LSG will now go into the auction with an INR 69 Crore purse, aiming to buy two or three high-profile players who can replace Rahul, such as Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, or Rishabh Pant.

High demand for KL Rahul by other teams
KL Rahul has been one of the best batters in the IPL over the past four to five years and offers wicket-keeping and captaincy options as well. With these multiple skills and the need for captains in many teams, KL Rahul is expected to be in high demand at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Teams like Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings might engage in a bidding war for this Indian star batter. This makes it likely that KL Rahul will join a different team for the next season.
