The Cricket World Cup 2023 is underway in the Indian subcontinent and the matches so far have been rather one-sided affairs. While New Zealand outclassed reigning champions, England by nine wickets in the tournament opener, Pakistan outperformed Netherlands on Day 2 of the ODI World Cup 2023.

As the tournament progressed, the third day saw some brilliant batting display as South Africa, after being invited to bat first, went onto post the highest score in ODI World Cup history. On the back of Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dusen and Aiden Markram’s centuries, the Proteas put 428 runs on the board.

While De Kock reached the 100-run mark of 84 deliveries, Van der Dussen scored 108 off 110 balls. Aiden Markram also scored a century which came off 49 deliveries, making him register his name in record books by becoming the fastest to reach the 100-run mark in ODI World Cup history. While this moment saw not only social media set on fire, former India skipper and batting stalwart, Virat Kohli’s old tweet also went viral.  

The 34-year-old’s tweet, which dates back to 24/03/2018 which read, “Aiden Markram is a delight to watch!” is now doing rounds. The same was even shared by IPL franchise Punjab Kings on Twitter after the brilliant display.

Talking about Team India, the Rohit Sharma-led side will begin their ODI World Cup campaign against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8, Sunday. Kohli, last featured in the final ODI of the three-match series against Australia at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
