Ever since Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah announced that the Indian cricket team will not be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, a heated discussion has begun. The first reaction came from Pakistan who are obviously not happy with BCCI’s stance on the same. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has threatened of pulling out of the 2023 ODI World Cup if India does not participate in Asia Cup.
Now, a Sri Lankan journalist has demanded that the International Cricket Council (ICC) bans the Indian team from its events just like it did to Zimbabwe, three years ago. “ICC banned Zimbabwe team from ICC events due to govt interference, now, What about India @ICC?” tweeted the Lankan journalist.
This tweet infuriated the Indian cricket team fans as they reminded the journalist that BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world and ICC runs on the Indian cricket board’s funds. Some also pointed out a similar action from Pakistan during the Chess Olympiad when the country refused to send its chess players to India to take part in the global event.
“Chess Olympiad se bahar hua pakistan to humne koi halla n kiya phir hum ho rahe to halla kar rahe ho. Reason yahi ho sakta hai ki tumko aisa lag raha hai ki india aa jaye to us kamai se pakistan chla le,” replied a user. “Without BCCI, ICC will be nothing,” tweeted another.
