Adrian Yanez, the No. 14 ranked bantamweight in the UFC, is ready to make his comeback after suffering his first loss in the promotion. Yanez will face No. 13 ranked Jonathan Martinez on October 14 at a UFC Fight Night event in Las Vegas.
Yanez (16-4 MMA, 5-1 UFC) had a nine-fight winning streak snapped by Rob Font, who knocked him out in the first round at UFC 287 in April. It was a tough setback for Yanez, who had impressed many fans and fighters with his striking skills and knockout power. He had earned four consecutive stoppage wins in the UFC, including three Performance of the Night bonuses. Yanez confirmed the rumors of the fight by sending out a tweet which read, “signed”.
Martinez is also a dangerous striker who has nine knockouts on his resume. He is currently on a five-fight winning streak, with victories over Zviad Lazishvili, Alejandro Perez, Vince Morales, Cub Swanson, and Said Nurmagomedov. His last win was a unanimous decision over Nurmagomedov at UFC Fight Night 221 in March.
The fight between Yanez and Martinez is expected to be a stand-up battle that could produce a highlight-reel finish. Both fighters are known for their speed, accuracy, and aggression and are also neck to neck in the rankings.
With the addition of Adrian vs Martinez, the updated UFC Fight Night lineup on Oct. 14 includes:
Irina Alekseeva vs. Melissa Dixon
Emily Ducote vs. Ashley Yoder
Edson Barboza vs. Sodiq Yusuff
Jonathan Martinez vs. Adrian Yanez
