India is set to participate in the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago with an eight-member athletics team ready to showcase their talents. The prestigious games, running from August 4 to 11, will witness young athletes from 71 nations competing in multiple sports events.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has meticulously selected the country's representatives, ensuring that they possess the skills and potential to excel on the international stage. The AFI on Monday, announced the eight-member squad that has already departed for Trinbago.
It has been discovered that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), not the Sports Ministry, is paying for athletes' participation costs. The COVID-19 pandemic, scheduling conflicts with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham necessitated a change to the original August 1–7, 2021 date for the Commonwealth Youth Games. In order to support the young athletes competing in the Commonwealth Youth Games, the IOA has stepped up to bear the costs.
India squad:
Abhay Singh (200m), Navpreet Singh (400m), Bapi Hansda (400mh), Arjun (javelin), Asha Kiran Barla (800m), Shireen Ahluwalia (relay), and Anupriya Sasi (shot put).
