Pakistan captain Babar Azam opened up about the impact of modern-day batting icons like Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Joe Root on his career. The cricketer revealed that he talks to all three of them whenever he gets an opportunity to improve his batting tactics. Not only this, but he also said that he got to learn a lot from them.
Azam, currently going through a rough patch of his career, appeared on Ab de Villiers’ YouTube channel. The 29-year-old failed to guide his side to remarkable campaigns in the Asia Cup 2023, ODI World Cup 2023, and T20 World Cup 2024. After being replaced by Shaheen Afridi at the helm of the team following the ODI World Cup 2023, Azam was once again named the captain of the side earlier this year.
Always ready to give you advice: Babar Azam on learnings from Kohli, Williamson and Root
Speaking on Mr.360, Azam said, “I talk a lot to Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson & Joe Root. They are always ready to give you advice which helps you a lot. I have learned a lot from these players.” In addition to this, the batter also opened up on his struggles before joining the Pakistan cricket team and said that while his family didn’t have money, they supported him.
Azam said, "I don't come from a rich family, and we didn't have money all the time. But my parents supported me a lot. I used to play street cricket growing up, and playing cricket with a hard ball was very difficult.”
It is to be noted that Babar will be seen next in action during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which is set to begin on August 21. This will be Pakistan’s first assignment following a disappointing T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in the USA and West Indies. During the tournament, the Men in Green failed to qualify for the Super-8 round.
