Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu, who represented Chennai Super Kings in the IPL before his retirement has pulled out of the first season of Major Cricket League season 1. After the completion of 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, Rayudu announced his retirement from the game. However, he made the announcement to return to the game almost immediately and news of him signing for the Texas Super Kings at USA’s Major League Cricket (MLC) Season 1 broke out. Meanwhile, as per the latest developments, it seems that the former CSK star won’t participate in the tournament at all.
Texas Super Kings, sister company of Chennai Super Kings, released an official statement confirming that Rayudu won’t participate in the forthcoming tournament, citing personal reasons. In their statement, TSK said, "Ambati Rayudu will not be available to participate in the first season of the MLC with Texas Super Kings due to personal reasons. He will continue to cheer for the team from India.”
The statement came on the same day when Jay Shah hinted that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to take a call on the ‘predetermined’ retirement trend among Indian cricketers. Shah said, “We’ll come out with a policy to prevent the trend of pre-determined retirement. The office bearers will make a policy and send it back for approval."
A report by the Indian Express suggested that the Indian cricketing regulating body will introduce a ‘cooling-off’ period that will prevent the players from joining foreign leagues just after their retirement from Indian cricket. Notably, Rayudu called it quits on all formats of the game during the IPL 2023 Final.
