LSU's Angel Reese called out a top sports publication house for their double standards towards Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant and NFL star Texas Longhorns’ Quinn Ewers. Ja Morant returned to action after serving a 25-game suspension. Morant was given the suspension by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for a gun incident in May 2023, which recorded his second suspension in four months. Grizzlies have won a total of five out of eight games since Morant’s return in the 2024-24 NBA season.
The 24-year-old had a season filled with controversies, and once again after his suspension, Morant found himself amidst controversial scenes. In their last-week game against the New Orleans Pelicans, Morant got excited and celebrated his dunk with the “Rock Ya Hips” dance. However, the dance got him harsh criticism and was misinterpreted as a gun celebration. A prominent media publication house Barstool Sports re-shared the video and quoted it as “Ja spraying imaginary bullets into section 113 after the slam.”
The celebration was later imitated by the Texas Longhorns’ Quinn Ewers during their Sugar Bowl game against the Washington Huskies. The publication once again shared the video, but this time, the caption was different as they wrote, “Quinn Ewers is having fun”. The double standards by the media company garnered attention from several of Morant’s fans and a few big names.
Angel Reese and Antonio Brown call out Barstool Sports
LSU star Angel Reese and ex-NFL star Antonio Brown called out Barstool Sports for their double standards towards Ja Morant. Reese, who is a good friend of Morant, reshared one of the posts highlighting the difference between the captions. The 21-year-old captioned it, “Lol I’ve seen this before.”
Brown, on the other hand, called Barstool Sports ‘crackheads’. Notably, this isn’t the first time the company has landed itself into controversy for partially towards players.
