On Monday, July 15, Argentina continued their dominant run on the world stage as they defeated Colombia to win their record 16th Copa America title. Entering the tournament as defending champions, Argentina secured a comfortable 1-0 win over Colombia to add another silverware to their decorated cabinet at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.
With this win, which was achieved with an extra-time goal (112th minute) from Lautaro Martinez saw Argentina finish as the most successful team in the history of Copa America. Notably, Argentina and Uruguay stood as most successful teams in Copa America with 15 titles so far, but a win today took Argentina on top.
Lautaro Martinez wins Copa America Golden Boot
Martinez, who has been pivotal for the Argentina side in the Copa America 202, scored a late goal, which was his fifth in the tournament to cement his position as the top scorer. With his later winner, Martinez also finished as the Copa America 2024 Golden Boot winner.
Moreover, speaking precisely of Argentina, they have undoubtedly been the most successful sides in South America, winning last three consecutive major tournaments, including 2020 FIFA World and 2021 Copa America, along with a Finalissima win in 2022.
