On September 17, Sunday, India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final, to win the Asia Cup 2023 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, thanks majorly to the six-wicket haul from Mohammed Siraj. This is the eighth championship win for Team India in the continental cricket tournament, who are now two ahead of Sri Lanka in the all-time Asia Cup title leaderboard.

Notably, Dasun Shanaka, the captain of Sri Lanka, won the toss and decided to bat first, which is the only good thing to happen to the hosts in the Asia Cup final. In overcast conditions, the Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah drew first blood in the opening over, picking up the key wicket of Kusal Perera for no score.
The fourth over of the Sri Lanka innings from Mohammed Siraj saw the carnage ensue, with four of the top-order batters walking back to the pavilion for the home team. The 29-year-old dismissed Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva in one over to break open the final for Team India.
Mohammed Siraj ended up with figures of 6-21 in his seven overs, to play an instrumental role in bowling out Sri Lanka for just 50 runs in the Asia Cup final. Hardik Pandya chipped in with three wickets in less than three overs, to put an exclamation point on the batting innings of the hosts.

For the second innings, t he Indian team management promoted Ishan Kishan to the top of the order, in place of the captain Rohit Sharma, to make light work of the 51 run target alongside Shubman Gill. These two young batters chased down the runs in just 6.1 overs, stayed not out in the process, to hand India a famous win in the Asia Cup 2023 final.
