Dominant India will face resilient Malaysia in the final of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, August 12. India beat Japan 5-0 in the semifinals, while Malaysia defeated Korea 6-2 to reach their maiden final.
India will be confident going into this final as they are unbeaten so far in the tournament, winning five and drawing the game against Japan in the group stage. India also defeated their opponents in the final, Malaysia, 5-0 during the league stage of the continental meet as part of their unbeaten streak. Harmanpreet Singh, the Indian hockey team captain has led from the front and is the leading scorer of the tournament so far with eight goals.
Malaysia, on the other hand, have been the unexpected dark horses of the tournament, as the ninth ranked team in the world have fought their way into their maiden final. After finishing second in the group stage, they comfortably beat the Koreans 6-2. Malaysia have been the second highest scorer in the tournament behind India with 18 goals.
