The Indian men’s cricket team earned laurels at the recently concluded Asian Games 2023. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side, who began their campaign in the quarterfinals owing to their higher rank in the ICC Rankings, made their way into the final, beating Nepal and Bangladesh before going past Afghanistan in the final after the match was abandoned with rain playing a spoilsport.
After they returned to India post their successful campaign in Hangzhou, China, the athletes were called by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a greeting meet. While all athletes, who were part of the Asian Games 2023, were seen donning their kit in the greeting ceremony, specially organised for them and amid this, the Indian men’s cricket team was seen expressing a brilliant gesture.
The Gaikwad-led side gifted the Indian PM a signed bat and Indian jersey, pictures of which are now doing rounds on social media.
India hockey team also extends gift post successful Asian Games 2023
The men’s and women’s hockey team, led by Harmanpreet Singh and Sarita Punia also gifted PM Modi a signed jersey from the ceremony. The Hockey India’s official Twitter handle shared pictures of the same with a caption, “Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi met and felicitated the Indian Men’s and Women’s National Team for their historic performance at the 19 th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.
As the season close, while the women’s team will prepare for the Asian Champion Trophy, the Harmanpreet-led side will aim to go big and better at the 2024 Paris Olympics, after they sealed a berth with a gold medal finish at the Games. The Indian tennis team also gifted a racquet to the Indian PM in the felicitation ceremony in Delhi.
