On Monday, December 16, Australia resumed their innings at 405/7 and added 40 more runs on the scoreboard to put 445 runs. Centuries from Travis Head and Steven Smith along with half-century from Alex Carey played a pivotal role in Australia continuing their domination in the five-match BGT series at the Gabba in Brisbane. For India, Jasprit Bumrah was the lone warrior, scalping six wickets in his 28-over spell.
Apart from him, Mohammed Siraj picked two wickets while Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy scalped one each to restrict Australia below 450. However, the third day of the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane did not saw much play with rain marring the day at frequent intervals, India were handed a major jolt with their top-oder registering a collapse again.
India trail by 394 runs at Stumps on Day 3 of third BGT Test
Coming into bat after bundling out Australia, India did not have a great start as Yashasvi Jaiswal departed having scored four off two deliveries. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli also could not give India the perfect start as they were dismissed, scoring one and three respectively. Rishabh Pant, who was reckoned as an important player coming into the third Test, also could not replicate his previous performance at this venue as he was dismissed after a brief rain break, scoring nine runs off 12 deliveries.
However, KL Rahul (33 off 64), who once again opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal, was the only bright spot in the Indian batting so far, and was joined by skipper Rohit Sharma (0 off 6) in the middle. The two played a quick deliveries, but umpires forced early stumps due to bad light as well as some slight drizzle.
Although the fortune of the game at this moment looks bleak as India trail by 394 runs at Stumps on Day 3. Moreover, the weather forecast for Day 4 also looks bleak with heavy showers and storms predicted for entire morning and afternoon. But it has to seen if Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul built a strong partnership to put India back into the game.
