On Saturday, December 28, the Indian cricket team bounced back in style to finish Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in a dominant position. Resuming the innings from 164 at the loss of five wickets, India posted 350-plus on the board, courtesy maiden Test hundred from Nitish Kumar Reddy in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Melbourne.

After Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja were dismissed cheaply at the scores of 28 and 17, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar stitched crucial partnership for the eighth wicket to get runs on the board and cut down the chase after Australia posted 474 runs. However, Washington Sundar departed after scoring a half-century off 162 deliveries, Nitish Kumar Reddy stayed firm, bringing his maiden Test hundred.

India trail by 116 runs at Stumps on Day 3

After a brief stay by Jasprit Bumrah where he was dismissed for a three-ball duck, Reddy was joined by Mohammed Siraj, both of whom slowed down the innings in order to add runs on the board. However, in the next over after Reddy smashed his century, umpires called off play due to bad light.

After brief halt, the umpires eventually called early stumps with the Indian scorecard reading 358 runs at the loss of nine wickets after 116 overs. With Nitish Kumar Reddy (105 off 176) and Mohammed Siraj (2 off 7) in the middle, India currently trail by 116 runs. On the other hand, for the hosts, who were seen struggling to get wickets, Pat Cummins and Scott Boland picked a wicket each on Day 3 whereas Nathan Lyon scalped two to his name.
