After suffering a collapse on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, the Indian cricket team bounced back in style with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar stitching a crucial stand in the middle. Resuming the innings from 164/5, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja could not make much of an impact with the bat as they were dismissed at the score of 28 and 17 respectively.
But Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar held the fortress, with the former scoring his maiden Test half-century off 81 deliveries. The 21-year-old, who has been one of the top performers for India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, once again stood tall, taking India near to the Australian score. The Indian all-rounder slowed down with mounting pressure and went onto to score his maiden Test hundred.

The Indian youngster raced to his maiden Test century on the third delivery off Scott Boland’s over. After surviving two balls earlier in the 115th over, Nitish Kumar Reddy lofted through the line as the ball cleared the mid-on fielder, going for a boundary. Soon after his ton, Reddy went down on his knee, planting the bat and keeping his helmet on the top to bring up a special 'Bahubali' celebration in front of the packed MCG crowd.
Moreover, Nitish Reddy’s father, who was also in attendance on Day 3 of the ongoing Test at MCG, was seen breaking down in tears. Mutyala Reddy, Nitish Kumar’s father was seen joining his hands as he prayed to the one above for this special knock with tears in his eyes.

Nitish Kumar Reddy became the third youngest Indian to score maiden Test ton in Australia, aged 21 years and 216 days, after Sachin Tendulkar (18 years and 256 days) and Rishabh Pant (21 years and 92 days). Speaking of the fourth BGT Test, after 116 overs, Indian scorecard read 358/9 eith Mohammed Siraj (2 off 7) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (105 off 176) in the middle.
