India took down Australia by 24 runs to remain undefeated in the T20 World Cup 2024 and qualify for the semi-final stage of the tournament. This victory has almost ensured Australia's exit from the World Cup as Bangladesh is required to beat Afghanistan to ensure the Aussie qualification for the final four stage.
After winning the toss, Mitch Marsh asked India to bat first who struggled after losing Virat Kohli cheaply. But eliminating any sort of pressure, Rohit Sharma took on the Aussie pace attack to smash a 19-ball half-century. He continued this onslaught to post a blistering 92 in 41 balls before getting out against Mitchell Starc. Around the Indian captain; Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube played vital cameos to post a 205-run total.
Chasing this total, Australia got off to a brilliant start despite losing David Warner early. Travis Head and Marsh posted an 81-run stand before the Aussie skipper was dismissed. Then came Glenn Maxwell who played a quick-fire 10-ball 22 before getting which allowed India to take over. Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel were among the wickets as Australia was restricted to 181.
Talking about this win, Rohit Sharm said, "Satisfying. We know the opposition and the threat they bring. As a team we did well, kept doing the things we needed to do. Gives us good confidence as a team. 200 is a good score but when you are playing here with wind being a big factor, anything can happen. But I think we used to conditions really well, and it was about individuals doing their job."
