The 2023 Ashes series is not going as per planned for the hosts England. Having lost opening two Tests against the Pat Cummins-led side, they have been succumbed to a lot of backlash. This is likely to continue until the Ben Stokes’s side make a comeback in the third Test of the series, which is set to kick start from July 6 in Headingley, Leeds.
The second Test at the Lord’s, which was all about action, reaction and altercations although might have ended with the result going in Australia’s favour, the battle between the media houses has taken a new shape. While the newspapers in the UK on Monday, July 3 took a jibe at the controversial run-out of Jonny Bairstow along with hitting at the Australia team, the Aussie media has hit back in an epic way.
The Aussie media on Tuesday morning, July 4, hit back with a ‘crybabies’ poster portraying Ben Stokes and his team. The picture of the front page of the newspaper went viral in no time and the England skipper who was pictured in nappies with ‘Crybabies’ written responded to this cartoon.
Stokes took to Twitter to react to this viral picture. “That’s definitely not me, since when did I bowl with the new ball,” Stokes wrote.
The England captain had earlier opened up on Jonny Bairstow’s controversial run-out. Reacting to the dismissal, Stokes had asserted that he wouldn’t want to win a game like this, and accepted that whatever happened on the field was well within the rules of the game.
“If the shoe was on the other foot I would have put more pressure on the umpires and asked whether they had called over and had a deep think about the whole spirit of the game. Would I want to win a game in that manner? The answer for me is no,” he said after the second Test loss.
Trailing the series 2-0, Ben Stokes-led England will take on Australia in the third Test from 6-10 July in Headingley, Leeds. While the Aussies will miss the services of veteran spinner Nathan Lyon, England will look to prove the term ‘Bazball’ to what is belongs.
