Cricket Australia has announced their 14-member women’s squad for the Only Test against South Africa that is set to be played at the WACA Ground in Perth from February 15-18, 2024. This will be the first-ever women’s Test match between both sides.
While the Aussies are coming into this Test after an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of India in Mumbai last year, South Africa will play their first Test after the Taunton Test against England back in 2022 which resulted in a draw.
Sophie Molineux returns after three years
Australia have included 26-year-old bowling all-rounder Sophie Molineux in their squad, who will make her return after 2021. Molineux last represented Australia in a T20I match against India in Carrara.
Sophie will replace Heather Graham, who misses out from the squad. Heather last featured in the side when the Australian side toured India last year. Apart from Heather, Lauren Cheatle also remains out after undergoing a surgery of skin cancer on her neck.
Welcoming Sophie Molineux on her return, Australia Women national selector Shawn Flegler said, “Molineux’s return is a testament to her hard work, hitting the ground running after a horrid injury run.”
“A multi-skilled cricketer with strong leadership qualities, Sophie has been highly rated by the National Selection Panel for a long period of time,” he further added.
