Tamil Nadu batter Baba Indrajith batted with a taped mouth after suffering a horrific lip injury in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 Semifinal against Haryana. Indrajit suffered a deep cut on his upper lip after he slipped in the bathroom during the mid-innings. With his side stumbling to 53 for three within 14 overs while chasing 294 at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, December 13, Indrajith stepped into bat with a heavily taped mouth. The batter also received medical assistance during the 16th over.
The 29-year-old kept going through pain and delivered a powerful performance of 64 runs in 71 balls with a combination of five fours. However, his effort fell short as Haryana went on to defeat Tamil Nadu by 63 runs. Earlier, Indrajith struck an unbeaten 103 to help his side register a win over Mumbai in the quarterfinal of the tournament. Not only this, but he is also his side’s top run scorer in this edition of the competition with more than 270 runs from seven innings, which includes a century and a fifty.
Should be back soon: Indrajith shares updates on Instagram
The young batter took to Instagram and shared updates of his injury with his followers. He also expressed disappointment in not being able to help his side but assured his fans that he would be back soon.
The Chennai-born shared on Instagram, “Thank you all for your concern and wishes. Slipped and fell very badly when I stepped out of the ice bath mid-inning. Fell face-on in the bathroom and was shaken up quite a bit. Was bleeding with a deep cut on the upper lip and the inside of the lip. Managed to bat somehow but was gutted to not cross the finish line for the team. Just went to the hospital and got my stitches done. Should be back soon. Thank you once again.”
