In a recent video that has surfaced on the internet, football superstar Lionel Messi can be seen stepping unintentionally on a FC Barcelona jersey that was hurled at him by some fans. The video shows Inter Miami players, including Lionel Messi, walking out of the tunnel towards the pitch. During this time, some fans hurled an old Barcelona jersey, which can be made out due to the old Rakuten sponsor logo on it. The jersey landed directly near Messi’s foot, who stepped on it after being unaware that it was thrown by one of the supporters in that stadium. He was looking behind for a split second to see what had he stepped upon accidentally and then looked up to see who had thrown the object, and continued walking forward.

The incident likely occurred during Inter Miami’s latest match against Atalanta United at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The video which has been circulated across various social media platforms has gathered mixed reactions from football fans. Some people are criticizing the Argentine for disrespecting the jersey while others have defended the former Barcelona legend by saying that he cannot just pick up any object off the floor due to safety and precautionary reasons.

I’m sad to miss these important games: Messi speaks out about upcoming international matches

The result of that match was in Inter Miami’s favour as they won the game 2-1 courtesy of a brilliant chip goal from Lionel Messi to start the comeback after being one goal down. However, some recent news that came out has been disheartening for a lot of Messi fans. It was reported that Messi would miss the upcoming international games for the Argentina national team.

The 37-year old forward underwent some scans on the following day of the Inter Miami match and was found to have some small injury in the abductor area. Messi recently spoke out about him missing these national team games and said that he would support and cheer on his team. He said, “I really wanted to play but a small injury means I need to rest for a bit, so I can’t be there.”
