Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday, September 12 named their 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against India. The two neighbouring nations will lock horns in a Test series consisting of two matches, which will be played in Chennai and Kanpur from September 19 and September 27 respectively.

However, the squad is similar to that of their recently concluded 2-0 Test series win against Pakistan, Shoriful Islam is one of the notable absentees after he was left out of the second Test after sustaining an injury. Just ahead of the second Test in Pakistan, BCB had informed Shoriful Islam to miss out due to a groin strain. “Shoriful underwent an MRI following the first Test and the results show a Grade 1 left adductor strain. Recovery usually takes around 10 days in such cases and he has started his rehab,” Bangladesh physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan had stated as shared by BCB.

Although, the side will miss the likes of Shoriful Islam, Jaker Ali Anik has earned his maiden Test call-up for the side. The 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batter is the only uncapped player in the 16-member team for the upcoming series. Speaking of his number, Ali has played 17 T20Is where he has scored 245 runs at an average of 27.22 and strike rate of 116.66.

While the side will land in India ahead of the series from Bangladesh after the completion of their training camp, underway in Dhaka, veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to fly directly from England, where he is featuring for Surrey in the County Championship match against Somerset.
