Bangladesh pacer Shohidul Islam has received a 10-month suspension after pleading guilty to breaching Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code. The 27-year-old pacer has represented Bangladesh in one T20I. Shohidul admitted to the offence and has been suspended from all forms of cricket for 10 months.

The 10-month suspension has been backdated to 28 May, the day he admitted to the offence, so now the Bangladeshi fast bowler will be suitable to play on 28 March 2023. Islam has played only one T20I for Bangladesh, where he dismissed Mohammad Rizwan in the third and final match of the series where Pakistan registered a 3-0 win.

Shohidul's urine sample tested positive for the substance called Clomifene, which is included as a Specified Substance under WADA's Prohibited List. The substance is banned from both in-competition as well as out-of-competition. The 27-year-old had provided the urine sample as a part of ICC's out-of-competition testing programme.

While giving away the suspension, the ICC confirmed that Shohidul Islam had inadvertently taken the prohibited substance as it was in the form of medicine that he had been legally prescribed for therapeutic purposes. Islam also attested that he had no intention to use the banned substance for enhancing his performance.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh registered their largest win away from home while chasing as they defeated West Indies by nine wickets in the second ODI on Wednesday. Left-arm orthodox bowler Nasum Ahmed had a dream spell as picked up three wickets while giving just 19 runs in his 10-over quota. Ahmed also bowled four maiden overs. Similarly, Mehidy Hasan also spun his web against the Windies as he managed four scalps in the 10 overs while giving just 29 runs.

For West Indies, Keemo Paul was the player to score over 20 as he ended the innings not out at 25 in 24 balls. Paul also hit four fours in this knock while scoring at a strike rate of 104.17. Then in the second innings, captain Tamim Iqbal scored a scintillating half-century with seven fours. Along with Iqbal, Litton Das also batted well and ended up scoring 32 runs in 27 balls.
