Bayern Munich’s new project seems to be heading in the right direction after one of their sporting directors has spoken about the possible contract extensions of three more players from the existing squad. Christoph Freund, who previously worked for 17 years at Red Bull Salzburg, joined as Bayern’s Sporting Director in September 2023. According to reports, he has recently confirmed that Bayern Munich are in talks with three players namely; Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane and Eric Dier over new deals. The Bavarian club has been doing good business lately in tying down good talent to longer deals at the club.

While Leroy Sane and Eric Dier seem to be obvious choices, a possible contract extension for Thomas Muller seems to be a bold decision from the club as the German midfielder will turn 36 this year. There has previously been a lot of talk around the possible contract extension of Thomas Muller with a new short-term deal to be signed between the two parties. One of Bayern’s Directors, Max Eberl had previously mentioned the club’s admiration towards the veteran midfielder and how the club would be eager to sign a new deal with Muller, given that the expectations of both parties align.

Bayern have already secured the signatures of key players like Kimmich, Musiala, Davies and Neuer

A long transfer saga that recently concluded was that of Joshua Kimmich. The midfielder was linked to several top European clubs and with no official statements from the club over a contract extension for the Bayern captain, his exit seemed possible. However, Bayern recently tied him down to a long-term deal until 2029.

Not only him, but Jamial Musiala and Alphonso Davies have also been tied down to long-term contracts by the German club, instilling a sense of trust among fans and stakeholders over this new project that they are building. Unfortunately, they have been hit with an injury blow in the case of Davies, as the full-back has been ruled out of the season due to an ACL injury during the international break.
