
Debutant Ashwani Kumar turned out to be the star as Mumbai Indians finally got their first win in IPL 2025 in match number 12 at Wankhede Stadium. Playing the first match of the season at their home ground, MI bowled KKR out for just 116 runs in 16.2 overs with Ashwani shining with a four-wicket haul. The 23-year-old dismissed KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane on the very first ball of his IPL career. After that, the left-arm pacer took big wickets of Manish Pandey, Rinku Singh and Andre Russell registering figures of 4/24 in three overs in his first-ever match in IPL.
Talking about the match, MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and asked KKR to bat first. Bowling first, MI got a fiery start as Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar sent both the openers (Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine) back to pavilion inside two overs with just two runs on board. After that, KKR went on to lose wickets at regular intervals with Angkrish Raghuvanshi being top scorer with 26(16) runs.
KKR bundle out for 116 runs as MI register first win
Ramandeep Singh also contributed with 22(12) runs hitting one four and two sixes. Apart from that, none of the other batters could cross even 20 runs as KKR were bowled out in 16.2 overs. For MI, Ashwani Kumar took four scalps, Deepak Chahar took two while skipper Hardik Pandya, Vignesh Puthur, Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner scalped a wicket each.
Chasing the winning target, Mumbai Indians were looking to get a big start as Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton added 46 runs for the first wicket in 5.2 overs. However, Rohit got another failure as he got out after scoring 13 runs off 12 balls with one maximum. After that, Rickelton took charge of the innings and went on to smash first half-century in his IPL in 33 deliveries. Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks added 45 runs for the second wicket before Jacks lost his wicket after scoring just 16 off 17 balls hitting one sixes. Rickelton remained unbeaten on 62 runs off 41 balls while Suryakumar Yadav gave finishing touches with 27*(9) runs as MI chased the target in 12.5 overs losing two wickets.
