On April 4, 2024, Punjab Kings (PBKS) bagged a three-wicket victory against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Shashank Singh displayed valour and played a brisk knock of an unbeaten 61 off just 29 to assist his team chase down a huge target of 200 runs in 19.5 overs. Bowling first after winning the toss, the visitors failed to stop the GT captain Shubman Gill, who was pounding bowlers mercilessly. The Gujarat skipper notched up an unbeaten 89 off 48 and became the highest run-scorer in the match. Sai Sudharsan and Rahul Tewatia also chipped in with their 33 (19) and 23 (8) respectively.

Following the target, PBKS lost their captain Shikhar Dhawan early but Jonny Bairstow showcased fighting spirit and produced some fine strokes from his bat. The England opener departed after hitting 22 off just 13. Prabhsimran Singh, who batted at number three, also played a vital innings of 35 off 24.

Shashank held his nerves and took Punjab home

With 50 required just 27, Shashank took GT bowlers to the cleaners and built a firm partnership of 43 runs off just 22 balls with Ashutosh Singh, who played the match as an Impact Player. Ashutosh also gave a solid hammering to bowlers and took Punjab close to the target.

In the last over, PBKS needed seven but they lost Ashutosh to Darshan Nalkande on the first delivery. Ashutosh went back to the dugout after racking up 31 off just 17, with the help of four boundaries (three fours and a maximum). After Ashutosh’s fall, Shashank didn’t get nervous and took his side home with one ball to spare. Ashutosh’s batting brilliance also helped him receive the player of the match (POTM) award.
