Recently, Bayern Munich Sporting Director Max Eberl issued an update on contract renewals of several Bayern players including Thomas Muller. Thomas Muller has not been anything short of a club legend at Bayern Munich. The German midfielder who joined Bayern in its youth setup has moved up the ranks to become one of its greatest players till date. Having played more than 800 games for the Bavarian club across all competitions, Muller’s longevity is truly commendable.
He had signed his last contract renewal with Bayern back in December 2023, penning down a new deal until 30 June 2025. With less than four months remaining on his current contract, the player and club will soon have to make a decision on his future. Speaking on similar lines, Bayern Director Max Eberl said that he had such a conversation at the end of 2024 and they will continue on that. He added, “Thomas is an icon of FC Bayern. It’s about his thoughts, how he imagines his role, as well as our thoughts.”
Having retired from international football, is it time for Muller to hang up his boots?
In the current season, Thomas Muller has played 32 games for Bayern Munich across all competitions. However, he has started in the playing XI in only seven of those games showing how his role at the club isn’t that of a first-team player right now. At 35 years of age, Muller might still have a couple of years of competitive football left in him before he can hang his boots.
Muller has an equally fantastic record with the German national team. With 131 international caps and 45 goals for Germany, Muller has won the World Cup with the national team in 2014. Thomas Muller announced retirement from the international team back in July 2024 after the Euros. Germany lost 2-1 to Spain in the quarter-finals in that competition.
