During the 14th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards, emanating from the Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai, the Portuguese footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo had quite a lot to say to the esteemed guests in attendance. The 38-year-old questioned the criticism surrounding him after joining Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia while remarking that he was the best goalscorer in 2023.

Cristiano Ronaldo stayed ahead of Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe who scored 52 goals each for club and country, while Erling Haaland, the newest superstar in football, finished the year 2023 with 53 goals in his tally. The Portuguese legend won the Maradona Award for best goal scorer at the Globe Soccer Award 2023.

During the Globe Soccer Award 2023, he was quoted as saying, as per Fabrizio Romano, “I was the best goalscorer this season, imagine beating a young animal like Haaland… I’m proud. And I’ll be 39 soon! I like when people doubt again about me and then I’m successful. I don’t get affected by the criticism.”

Saudi League is not worse than French League: Cristiano Ronaldo

At the Globe Soccer Awards, the question was posed to Cristiano Ronaldo about what he thinks about the Saudi Pro League after playing there for one year. In response, he shared his detailed analysis of Middle Eastern football after saying, “The Saudi League is not worse than the French League.”

Cristiano Ronaldo added, “They can say whatever they want, it’s just my opinion. And I play there one year, so I know what I’m talking about. But I think right now, we are better than the French League.”

In an unforgettable year of football during 2023, Cristiano Ronaldo scored the most goals among all the footballers worldwide for club and country. CR7 notched up 53 goals in all competitions, including 10 goals for Portugal, which helped the national team reach the UEFA Euro 2024 undefeated, and the remaining 43 goals in the Al-Nassr shirt after joining them at the turn of last year.
