The England Cricket Board (ECB) on Thursday appointed star all-rounder Ben Stokes as the captain of England's Test team. Stokes's first assignment as the Test captain would be a two-match home series against New Zealand in June. The announcement was made by Rob Key in his first media conference since being appointed managing director of men's cricket by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Notably, Joe Root stepped down earlier this month after England won just one of their previous 17 Tests, a run which included a 4-0 Ashes thrashing in Australia and a 1-0 series defeat in West Indies.
