Benjamin Mendy, a former defender for Manchester City, is said to be pursuing legal action for the financial damages he sustained throughout his inquiry. French media sites claim that the player's club had his international salary suspended while the investigation was ongoing. The player is attempting to recoup a portion of his withheld wages during his suspension.

Mendy's accountant stated that since September 2021, Manchester City had not paid Mendy, who was not present at the hearing. The accountant claimed that Mendy's agent was "in negotiations with Manchester City to get the back pay on the basis that he has been found not guilty". The accountant informed the court that the amount is "in the range of £9m-£10m gross."
Mendy was suspended by both Manchester City and the Premier League shortly after being accused of several offences. As soon as his deal with the club expired, he was released as a free agent. The French defender was the subject of an inquiry into rape and sexual assault claims made against him. Mendy was found innocent of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in January, nevertheless. He was found not guilty of one further count of attempted rape as the Chester Crown Court rendered its judgement.
Mendy has signed a two-year deal with French club FC Lorient after his contract with Man City expired in June. Due to his poor fitness, he won't be playing in the club's Ligue 1 opening game.
