The broadcasters for the upcoming ICC T20I World Cup 2024 are likely to have a talk with the ICC next month during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The T20I World Cup 2024 is set to be hosted in the United States of America and West Indies, and with less than nine months to go for the tournament, it has been learnt that there is no clarity of venues in the USA. The issue has been a major reason behind the frustration of the broadcasters for the upcoming marquee event in 2024, the year that will be the beginning of the ICC media rights cycle 2024-2027 cycle.

According to a report by CricketNext, the international cricket governing body aims to host a total of 17 fixtures in the USA, which would also include the India vs Pakistan match in New York City. However, as per the latest developments, the plan has already hit several roadblocks.

The report further suggests that either Disney or one of Sony and Zee (or both) is likely to raise the issue at the ICC’s meeting in Mumbai in October 2023 ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup.

According to an industry expert, “Look at the time difference. The broadcaster will not benefit from having India-Pakistan or even big matches in the USA. And let’s not forget they are one of the most important stakeholders there. The recent media rights deal has filled ICC coffers and it will not be fair on them if the global body turns a blind eye towards them. Their concerns must be heard and addressed.”
