Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri highlighted a big concern for the Indian team ahead of the much anticipated Champions Trophy 2025. With the star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah doubtful for the upcoming tournament in Pakistan and UAE, Shastri said that his absence could reduce India’s chances for winning the tournament. Notably, Bumrah suffered back injury during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney last month, due to which, he has been out of cricketing action since then.

Although Jasprit Bumrah has been included in the Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy, there is no surety whether he will be fully fit to be play a game before the start of the tournament. “Bumrah not fit will reduce India’s chances (of winning the Champions Trophy) by 30%, literally by 30-35%. With a fully fit Bumrah playing, you are guaranteed of those death overs. It would’ve been a different ball game altogether,” Ravi Shastri was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

I think it’s high risk: Ravi Shastri advices India to not rush with injured Jasprit Bumrah for Champions Trophy 2025

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah is undergoing rehabilitation at National Cricket Academy (NCA). Speaking further, Ravi Shastri also suggested the Indian team management to take an impulsive decision of letting Bumrah play in the Champions Trophy if he is not fully fit. The former cricketer thinks that it’s matter of high risk and the Indian team should think of the future as lots of cricket coming for Men in Blue.

“I think it’s high risk. There’s too much big cricket coming up for India. And at this stage of his career, I think he’s too precious to be just called on for one game out of the blue and asked to deliver. The expectations will be so much. They’ll think that he’ll come in straight away and set the world on fire. It’s never that easy when you come back from injury,” Ravi Shastri said.
