Cameron Green, the Australian all-rounder, is reportedly doubtful to participate in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series in two month’s time after being ruled out of the final two ODI against England due to a back injury. The 25-year-old was taken for scans in London after reporting soreness in his back following the conclusion of the third ODI against England in Chester-le-Street, which showed that he had suffered an injury.
Notably, in the third ODI at the Riverside Ground on Tuesday, September 24, Cameron Green had scored 42 off 49 in the middle order, which proved to be an important innings for Australia to get past 300-run total. In the run chase, England stand-in captain brought up his maiden ODI hundred, to take his team over the line for their first win in the series, but not after Cameron Green had bowled six overs in his spell with figures of 2/45.
Cameron Green will return home for further assessment on his back injury
The sustained effort in bowling bouncers during his spell in the third ODI caused Cameron Green to feel some soreness in his back in Durham, and later on, the scans in London revealed a back injury. The statement from Cricket Australia on the matter read, “Cameron Green has sustained a back injury and will play no further part in the ODI tour of England. Scans in London overnight revealed the injury after Green reported soreness following the third ODI against England in Durham. He will return home for further assessment where his return to play management plan will be determined.”
With Cameron Green’s timeline of return to cricket not yet determined, especially with a history of stress fractures of the back in his young career, some doubts have been raised about whether he will be ready to take part in the five-match Test series against India down under this November. The Australian all-rounder had last suffered a stress fracture in 2019, just a year prior to making his debut in the Test format.
