Barcelona has confirmed that Spanish attacking midfielder Dani Olmo will be out of action for the next three weeks due to adductor injury. With this, Olmo is expected to miss five Barcelona games, including the club's UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter-final both legs against Borussia Dortmund on April 9. The midfielder was injured after scoring his team's second penalty kick in Thursday's 3-0 league triumph over Osasuna, and was substituted in the 28th minute.
In the official statement released by the Barcelona, they wrote, “Tests conducted this morning have confirmed that first-team player Dani Olmo has a right adductor injury. He is expected to be out for around three weeks.” Apart from the UCL match, Olmo will also not feature in their La Liga matches against Girona, Real Betis, Leganes, and possibly Celta Vigo. He will also miss the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid.
Three points came at heavy price after losing Dani Olmo, coach Hansi Flick
Dani Olmo played 84 minutes in Spain's UEFA Nations League semi-final win over the Netherlands on Sunday, and started against Osasuna a few days later. Following Thursday's match, Barça coach Hansi Flick admitted that the victory, which extended his team’s lead at the top of LaLiga by three points, came at a heavy price due to Olmo's injury.
“I’m very proud of my players. The game wasn’t the best day to play it. We paid a heavy price for it with Olmo’s injury,” he remarked. Since joining Barcelona from RB Leipzig last summer, Olmo has recorded eight goals and five assists in 28 appearances. Thursday's match was the first of seven games in a 20-day stretch for Barcelona, with their league clash against Girona set to kick off just 64 hours after the final whistle against Osasuna.
