English club football giants Chelsea have completed the signing of Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo, the two midfielders of Sporting Lisbon, for a combined fee of £62.4 million. The highly sought-after midfielder Geovany Quenda, who is just 17 years of age, is going to join Chelsea for a fee of £44 million, but the transfer will not be completed until the end of 2025-26 season when he will leave Sporting Lisbon.
Notably, Geovany Quenda is widely considered as one of the brightest young prospects in football, began his professional career by playing for the first-team of Sporting Lisbon earlier this season. The attacking midfielder also made his debut in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) for the Portuguese club last September, and since then, he has impressed one and all with his game.
Chelsea had earlier signed two more teenage players this season
His teammate Dario Essugo, 20, who plays the role of defensive midfielder, is going to complete his transfer to Chelsea from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of £18.4 million in the summer after completing his loan spell at Las Palmas. While this move is expected to change the trajectory of Dario Essugo’s career, he will need to be more disciplined in his play because of picking up two red cards in past four appearances in Spain.
Dario Essugo is expected to join Chelsea in the summer in the United States of America for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which will be a good opportunity for him to build himself up for the next season. Moreover, Chelsea had already signed two teenage prospects before going into business for Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo with Sporting Lisbon recently.
