After suffering a torn knee ligament last month, France forward Christopher Nkunku was ruled out of the FIFA World Cup 2022. However, the 25-year-old has received a sign of relief as Premier League club Chelsea have completed the signing of the French forward from the German club RB Leipzig.
Nkunku was heavily linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge for a longtime as the RB Leipzig forward has scored 20 goals and made 15 assists in the 2021-22 Bundesliga season while he has already scored 12 goals in 15 league matches for Leipzig before the World Cup break.
According to football expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have signed Nkunku from RB Leipzig with all the documents and contracts being signed by the German club and the French footballer. Romano took to his official Twitter handle to reveal that Nkunku is set to join the Blues from July 2023.
Romano tweeted, "Christopher Nkunku deal, signed and sealed — here we go now confirmed. All documents and contracts are also signed, it’s 100% closed. French striker can be considered new Chelsea player, starting from July 2023. It’s all signed/sealed with RB Leipzig and player side. "
In his Leipzig contract, Nkunku had a £53million release clause but Fabrizio Romano believed that the Blues paid around £10m more than that to get a deal done early. The French forward will join the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling and Armando Broja in Graham Potter's attacking strategy.
Last season, Nkunku scored seven goals in his six UEFA Champions League appearances for the German club while the 25-year-old forward has scored three goals in six matches this season.
