With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) just around the corner, Team India will be without two of their Test mainstays in Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. However, the two Indian cricketers have been dropped from the BCCI contract list for 2024-25, and are often seen playing in county cricket or domestic cricket tournaments.
But as per the latest development, star Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara, who is also reckoned as the ‘New Wall’ of Test cricket after Rahul Dravid, is all set to return in BGT but in an all different role. Pujara, who is known for resilience and grit, will reportedly step in the commentary box with Star Sports, BGT’s official broadcaster.
Pujara to join Star Sports’ Hindi commentary panel for BGT 2024-25
Pujara, who finished as the highest run-getter in 2018-19 edition of the BGT, followed by finishing as the second highest run-scorer in 2020-21, will now make his debut in the commentary box in the upcoming five-match Test series. The 36-year-old played a pivotal role in India’s historic win in 2018-19 in Australia. Not only did he finish with the Player of the Series award, but amassed 521 runs across four Tests at an average of 74.42.
In the following edition in 2020-21, Pujara once again played a significant role in India’s historic win. As the next edition of the highly-anticipated series approaches, he is set to set to commit to his new role from behind the mic, however, the broadcasters are yet to announce their commentary panel for the upcoming series.
