The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday, October 16 confirmed the inclusion of cricket for the 2028 Olympics. The official authority behind the quadrennial showpiece, the IOC took to X to confirm the sports which have found their way in the 2028 edition, set to take place in Los Angeles.  

The IOC Media in a post on X stated, “The proposal from the Organising Committee of the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 (@LA28) to include five new sports in the programme has been accepted by the IOC Session.” It is to be noted that the decision was taken by the 141 st  session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

It is to be noted that cricket will make a return at the Games since Olympic Game Paris 1900. The IOC President Thomas Bach, who recently made a visit to India in the released statement said, “The choice of these five sports is in line with the American sports culture and will showcase iconic American sport to the world, while bringing international sport to the United States. These sports will make the Olympic Games LA28 unique.”

Apart from T20 cricket, baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes) and squash are the other sports which have been officially included as additionally sports for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 (LA28).
