On Saturday, May 18, the image of a crestfallen MS Dhoni went viral on social media after Chennai Super Kings suffered a 27-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which led to their elimination from the IPL 2024 playoffs race. In the immediate aftermath, Suresh Raina remarked that MS Dhoni should play one more IPL season for CSK amidst his retirement rumours.

During the build-up to the high-stakes IPL 2024 clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, speculations were rife about MS Dhoni making his last appearance in Yellow if CSK didn’t make the playoffs. Following their loss to RCB, the overwhelming majority of MS Dhoni fans on social media think that he is set to retire from professional cricket, but Suresh Raina doesn’t agree with their sentiment.   Check the top betting trends on the  best betting sites in India  and apps.

While talking to JioCinema, Suresh Raina addressed the future course of action for MS Dhoni regarding his IPL career with the Chennai Super Kings. He said, as per Indian Express, “Ruturaj Gaikwad needs more time to mature, so MS Dhoni should play one more season.”

Notably, after winning the toss at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, decided to field first. But the first half of the innings firmly belonged to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who posted a big total of 218/5 with their captain Faf du Plessis scoring a fifty, while the likes of Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Cameron Green scored quickfire 30s and 40s.

In the run chase, CSK lost wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell in quick succession before Rachin Ravindra (61 off 37) and Ajinkya Rahane (33 off 22) brought them back into the contest with a key partnership of 66 runs. Following this, a flurry of wickets put RCB ahead of the match before Dhoni and Jadeja started putting the bowlers under pressure.

With CSK needing 17 runs in the last over to make the IPL 2024 playoffs, MS Dhoni smashed a massive six out of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on the first ball from Yash Dayal. But the left-arm fast bowler held his nerve to pick the wicket of MS Dhoni on the next ball before conceding only a run in the remaining four balls against Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja, to help RCB book a spot in the playoffs.
