MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings are in the IPL 2023 final and will see defending champions Gujarat Titans on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the final showdown. However, this is the tenth time that they have reached the final of the cash-rich league in the 14 appearances so far, the team will be without some of the experienced players in the ranks.
Well, it’s not MS Dhoni or Ravindra Jadeja for sure, but is the England Test captain Ben Stokes, who has returned home. The England all-rounder who was bought by CSK for INR 16.25 Crore, only featured in two games for the Yellow Army out of the 14 league stage games and returned ahead of the Qualifier 1. It is to be noted that Stokes has struggled with match fitness during the 16 th edition of the tournament and a knee injury prevented him to bowl. In the two innings he played in, the batter got out at the scores of 7 and 8, bowling only one over.
For not having featured in 12 games for CSK, the franchise has imposed 20 per cent pay cut from the English all-rounder’s price. There has been a provision in players’ contract that if a player does not feature in the Playing XI, he/she might be in the list to get a 20 per cent pay cut at the pro rata basis. As per the price sum, Stokes will take a pay cut of INR 23.20 Lakh per game which is equivalent to INR 2.78 Crore for the season.
