Indian judoka Vijay Kumar Yadav extended India's medal tally on Monday after securing bronze medal in Men's 60kg final at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Vijay bagged a waza-ari after just 5 seconds of the bell and held on to clinch the ippon to take home the bronze medal in the men's category. Vijay dominated the game in such a manner that contest lasted for just 58 seconds.
Vijay Kumar Yadav made quick work of Petros Christodoulides in the opening minutes of the match to claim a medal for India. Earlier, Indian judoka defeated Dylon Munro of Scotland to enter the bronze medal match. There is little doubt over the fact that Vijay made the nation proud and as the news of Vijay bagging bronze medal broke out, social medial was flooded with the congratulatory posts.
Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi and newly appointed President extended their wishes to Vijay and congratulated him for delivering a clinical performance at Commonwealth Games.
Vijay's family in Varanasi could not control their emotion and celebrated his medal win by dancing and distributing sweets in the neighborhood. The video of the same has since gone viral and being widely circulated.
Speaking of India's performance at CWG 2022, India's medal tally has reached to 9 after Day 4. Apart from Vijay, Judoka Sushila Devi Likmabam clinched India's seventh medal, and the first outside weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. She won the silver medal in the women's 48 kg category at the Games. In the final, she was defeated by Michaela Whitebooi of South Africa.
