Daniil Medvedev jokingly dropped hint at taking Formula 1 as a career option after hanging his tennis racquets. He is currently in Rome to participate in the Italian Open 2023. He emerged victorious in the third round of the Italian ATP 1000 tournament against Bernabe Zapata Miralles on Monday, May 15. Despite starting off the clash on a rocky ground, Medvedev clinched victory 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

On being asked about the outfit he was wearing during the post-match interview; he shared his love for Formula 1. Notably, the outfit he was wearing had a strong resemblance with the chequered flag used to give signals at the end of the formula one race. While talking about the game he admires, he also said that almost 85 per cent people said that he should have pursued a career as an F1 driver instead of tennis. He said, "Yeah it looks a little bit like a flag right? Like a finish line [flag]. I like F1 so, and a lot of people sent me this week. I would say 85% F1, 10% say basketball and 5%, maybe one or two guys, said the rapper."

He was then asked if he would pursue his career as a rapper, to which he replied that he would prefer F1 racing as he believes he is quite a skilled driver. He also said that he might pursue racing as a post-career endeavour, if he feels he has enough time to do so. The former World No.1 said, "I prefer F1. What I feel like I could not be that bad at racing. Well, we’ll see after my career if I have time to do something."

Notably, this is the first time Medvedev has reached the fourth round in the Italian Open. Before that, he made to the Round of 16 at the Madrid Open and the quarter finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters.
