Team India triumphed over 2019 finalists, New Zealand on November 15, Wednesday at the Wankhede Stadium after a brilliant performance from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer with the bat and a Player of the Match award performance by Mohammad Shami. The Men in Blue with a convincing 70-run win over the Kiwis, confirmed their place in the final for the fourth time in an ICC event.  

While it was Shami, who stole the show with a brilliant seven-wicket haul, conceding only 57 runs in his 9.5 overs. The back-to-back wickets for Shami took on the celebrations, not only at the Wankhede Stadium but across India, setting the social media also abuzz.

Meanwhile fans and enthusiasts took to social media to hail the man with the ball, the Mumbai and Delhi Police engaged in a light-hearted exchange over Shami’s performance. The Delhi Police took to X to troll Mumbai Police and suggested that they should refrain from booking Shami. “@MumbaiPolice hope you do not book @MdShami11 for tonight’s assault,” Delhi Police wrote.

The Mumbai Police, who are active across social platforms were quick to respond stating, “You missed pressing charges of stealing innumerable hearts @DelhiPolice and listing a couple of co-accused too”.

The post also caught attention of Deven Bharti, Special Commissioner of Mumbai Police, adding, “Not at all @Delhi Police. It qualifies for the protection under “Right of Self Defence”.

The banter did not stop here as the Mumbai Police also tagged Ahmedabad Police, the venue for the ODI World Cup 2023 Final, assuring if they are ready with the things. “@ahmedabadpolice hope you are ready to usher in the winning chariot, on its way to Ahmedabad”, wrote Mumbai Police with the Ahmedabad Police ensuring their full assistance for the finale.

While Virat Kohli sits at the top of the list having scored most runs in an ODI World Cup edition, 711 runs, Mohammed Shami has scalped 23 wickets in ODI World Cup 2023, just a wicket ahead of Adam Zampa (22 wickets).
