Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who led India’s T20I squad against West Indies, got heavily criticised for slumping against the West Indies 2-3 in the series. Apart from his captaincy, Pandya’s Test career has also been under scrutiny and has kept everyone confused about whether or not he would continue playing the longest format of cricket. While there hasn’t been an official announcement that came from the cricketer’s side, former India skipper Kapil Dev shared his thoughts on the same.

Dev, who led India in the 1983 World Cup, feels that Pandya won’t play in Test cricket. In a conversation with the Times of India, the 60-year-old said, “Doesn’t look like he will. He added, “I saw his photograph on the billboard today. I don’t know whether they did any touch-ups or not, but in that, he looked like having one of the finest bodies we have in the country.

The Haryana Hurricane went on to say, “Yes, he should play more cricket because he has so much ability. If he is fit, he should play Test cricket also.” Notably, Pandya last appeared in the Test squad in 2018 against England at The Rose Bowl.

In addition to this, the 1983 World Cup-winning skipper also addressed India’s chances of winning the 2023 World Cup. Dev said, “They need to come in the top four first. After that, anything is possible. You need a stroke of luck from the semifinal stage onwards and need things to go your way. But the most important thing is to reach the top four.”
