The Rohit Sharma-led Team India are hosting New Zealand in a three-match Test series at home as a part of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2023-25. While the Men in Blue trail the series by 0-1 margin, they are on a verge of registering their first-ever series defeat at home since 2012 against the Kiwis with the visitors taking a 300-plus run lead at stumps on Day 2 of the second Test, which is underway at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
During the second day of the ongoing Test, former Indian cricketer and legend of the game, Sunil Gavaskar in one of the incidents, stopped recently retired Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik as the latter began to talk about India’s upcoming tour of Australia. Just when Karthik began by stating, “There is a big series coming up against Australia as well”, Gavaskar was quick to cut him at that point and stopped him from talking about it.
Don’t talk about Australia now: Sunil Gavaskar to Dinesh Karthik
The two, who have been part of the commentary panel in the ongoing three-match Test series between India and New Zealand, Sunil Gavaskar quickly stopped the former keeper-batter as he began to speak about the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. "Don't talk about Australia now. That is a mistake that a lot of people often make,” Gavaskar said.
“You've got to worry about what's happening now. Your focus should be only on what's happening at the moment. Australia will take care of itself. When you go there, you will find the methods to beat Australia. You've done that over the last couple of trips there. You found a way," he further added on commentary.
It is to be noted that after the completion of the three-match Test series against New Zealand, India will travel to Australia for the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is set to kickstart from November 22 in Perth. As they travel down under, the Men in Blue will aim to complete a hat-trick of series win after winning two series previously.
