Canadian rapper Drake placed a massive Bitcoin bet on one of the Super Bowl teams, the Kansas City Chiefs. City Chiefs will lock horns with San Francisco at Super Bowl LVIII, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 11 in Las Vegas. A day before the big fight, Drake ended up putting a huge bet worth $1.4 million on the Chiefs to win over the 49ers. While the bet might have stirred up the Super Bowl scene, it is popular that the ‘Drake curse’ is real.
It is a widely circulated theory on the internet that the person or team Drake supports ends up losing, and the phenomenon has been dubbed the ‘Drake curse’. However, despite the rumours, Drake seemed to be unbothered by it, and he came up with another big bet. The rapper placed the bet for the Chiefs to win and cited that he didn’t want to bet against Taylor Swift’s fans (also known as Swifties).
Notably, the Love Story singer, who recently won Grammys, has been dating the Chiefs star Travis Kelce, and Kelce will be featuring against the 49ers during the big night. The 37-year-old posted a screenshot of the betting slip on Instagram and wrote, “I can’t bet against the swifties” Needless to say, the post went viral all over social media and fans trolled the singer as well as the Chiefs over the same.
What is Drake Curse?
The Drake curse is an internet-generated belief, according to which any team or player that has been supported by Drake loses the match or event they are participating. This curse affects people even if Drake is spotted wearing a particular jersey or is seen with an athlete. However, majorly, it affects the teams or athletes that Drake supports by placing bets and posting the betting slips on social media.
Several names including UFC champion Sean Strickland, Israel Adesanya, and Jake Paul have fallen victim to the curse.
