The Men in Blue will be gearing up for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan after completion of the South Africa tour. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday, 7th January announced a 16-member squad for T20I series, which will commence from January 11th in Mohali.

While the squad had some surprises in form of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s inclusion after last playing a T20 game at the 2022 T20 World Cup, there were several eyebrows raised after a few key players failed to find a place in the squad. Amid many, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra also opened up on the inclusion of several players, mainly KL Rahul.

“Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli were India’s top three in the 2022 World Cup. Among them, KL Rahul has been dropped or has not been picked, there is no clarity, but he is not there. There can be discussion on that a well,” Chopra aid on his YouTube channel.

Nobody knows why Ishan Kishan isn’t there: Chopra

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra also spoke of Ishan Kishan’s whereabouts in the Indian squad. “Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson are the two wicketkeepers, although Samson wasn’t kept as a keeper in the last two series. Ishan Kishan was going as a keeper but he is not there now. Nobody knows why Ishan Kishan isn’t there, that’s a different story,” Aakash Chopra stated.

Ishan Kishan, who featured in the T20I series against South Africa, had requested the BCCI to withdraw his name from the Indian Test squad for the South African Test series citing personal reasons.  It is to be noted that the BCCI hasn’t given any explanation on the omissions or inclusions.
