The Duleep Trophy, which is set to begin on June 28 in Bengaluru, will serve as the official start of the domestic season in India and will mark one of the earliest start to the Indian domestic season ever. After making its debut in 1961, the competition will commemorate its 60th edition in 2023. It is played in the First-Class format and Wasim Jaffer and Narendra Hirwani hold the record for the most runs and wickets respectively in the tournament’s history.

The first-class event, which is named after Kumar Shri Duleepsinhji of Nawanagar, is played by teams chosen by the BCCI and has teams from various geographical regions of India. Six teams - Central Zone, East Zone, North Zone, Northeast Zone, South Zone, and West Zone are a part of the domestic tournament. 

West Zone enters the 2023 edition as the defending champions, after they beat South Zone by 294 runs in 2022. Additionally, West Zone are the most successful side with 19 titles to their name. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari, Riyan Parag and Rinku Singh are some of the prominent names who will feature in the competition.
