India A and India D, both the teams which lost their opening round of the Duleep Trophy 2024, kickstarted their second round in Anantapur on Thursday, September 12. In the third match, which is being played between India A and India D, the latter won the toss and invited the Mayank Agarwal-led side to bat first.
However, the skipper did not have the start that was expected as he departed after scoring only seven runs off 14 deliveries, Pratham Singh, who replaced Shubman Gill, also departed cheaply at the score of seven. But with Riyan Parag taking the guards in the middle, things looked better for the India A, but his stay was cut short by Arshdeep Singh with Devdutt Padikkal completing his catch at slips.
The middle-order of the India A continued their struggles with Tilak Varma departing at 10, Riyan Parag having scored 37, Shashwat Rawat also getting 15. But the tide of the game turned when Shams Mulani took over. With the side being depleted to 93/5 at one point of time, Mulani’s crucial partnership with Kumar Khusagra steadied the inning. Mulani forged a 91-run partnership stand for the seventh wicket with his Mumbai teammate, Tanush Kotian. He scored a fighting unbeaten 88 to help the side to post 288/8 at Stumps on Day 1.

On the other hand, Vidhwath Kaverappa, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh finished the day with two wickets apiece, while Saransh Jain and Saurabh Kumar picked a wicket each to dominate the day.
