Durban’s Super Giants have completed the signing of New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, arguably one of the best batsmen in modern-day cricket, for the third season of SA20, scheduled to start early next year.
“Really excited to be a part of the SA20 this season with Durban's Super Giants. Looking forward to meeting Keshav, Lance and the boys, and playing in front of a packed house at Kingsmead. Can't wait!” an excited Williamson said after putting pen to paper. Williamson is an experienced campaigner in T20s with 6442 runs from 254 matches across the board. He has scored a hundred and 45 fifties in the shortest format at a healthy average of 31.57 and a strike rate of 122.58. The Kiwi has also picked up 30 wickets with his part-time off-spin bowling.
Apart from his batting prowess, Williamson has been an inspiring leader for New Zealand over the years, having captained them in four T20 World Cups, helping the team reach the final once and the semi-finals twice. He was also the skipper of the New Zealand side in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. Williamson also led IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad to the final in the 2018 edition. He was the top-scorer that season with 735 runs, becoming the first New Zealand player to win the IPL Orange Cap.
The New Zealand ace is our second pre-auction signing for the third season of the SA20 following the signing of West Indies batter Brandon King. Williamson also becomes the first Kiwi to sign for us. The third season of SA20, South Africa’s premier domestic T20 tournament, will commence on January 9, 2025, and run till February 8. We reached the final last season and will be eyeing to go one better this term.
