The 2024-25 edition of the BGT is set to begin on November 22, and it will have Indian skipper Rohit Sharma missing first Test in Perth. However, Sharma is likely to join the squad soon for the second Test in Adelaide. Since his debut series against Australia in 2014/15 in the middle order, Sharma has moved up and down the batting order until becoming a regular opener. He has faced Australia on three separate away tours in 2014/15, 2018/19, and 2020/21, as well as one home series in 2023. He also opened the batting for India in the final of the 2023 World Test Championship at The Oval.

For the Indian team, the upcoming Test series is very important, given the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). If India needs to reach the final, they have to seal the series with 4-0. So, the performance of Rohit Sharma as a batsman and captain is quite important in the series. Rohit has quite a good record against Australia in the Test series, which will be quite a boost for him to continue in the rest of the BGT.

Rohit Sharma's record in Test against Australia

Rohit has played 12 Tests and 22 innings against Australia in 9 years, spanning four series and a World Test Championship final. Against the rivals, Sharma scored 708 runs, including a century on a tricky Nagpur track in the 2023 series opener. His average is  33.71, and 120 runs is the highest.

Talking about the BGT performance of Rohit against Australia, he has played 11 Test matches and 20 innings. He has scored 650 runs so far with an average of 34.21. Besides, Sharma scored one century and five half-centuries. He is the seventh Indian captain to score a hundred in BGT. It will be interesting to see how Rohit Sharma will perform in the upcoming BGT series, helping the Indian team as a captain to be back in form after the disastrous Test loss against New Zealand.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is a 5 series Test that will be played in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne between November 22- Jan 3, 2025.
